The country's vaccine czar says more people could get their booster shots faster if vaccinations could be allowed in pharmacies nationwide.

In a televised briefing on Monday, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said at least half a million doses need to be administered daily to achieve the target of giving boosters to 72 million people in 2022. On average, the country currently gives 267,900 booster shots a day.[Let’s expand the] vaccination sites for boostering using big pharmacies and private sector clinics for the A4 population," he said.

Galvez said Mercury Drug, Watsons, The Generics Pharmacy, Generika, South Star Drug, QualiMed and Healthway were among the pharmacy chains being considered to augment the inoculation drive."Ito po...ay mababa dahil halos sabay natin inilunsad ang pagbabakuna ng mga bata. Ang mga bata po ngayon ay mahigit na[Translation: This number is low because vaccinations for children were launched almost at the same time. There are now over 8 million vaccinated children.

An additional strategy presented by Galvez to achieve the target was concentrating boostering in NCR Plus 10, as well as other areas with more than 70% of the population fully vaccinated to keep a high and continued level of protection.
