Pro-women group Gabriela Party-list has filed House Bill No.8859 in a bid to declare Aug. 14 of every year as the"National Memorial Day for Comfort Women".
"The comfort women were victims of sexual violence and exploitation, subjected to unimaginable suffering and trauma. It is our duty to remember their stories and ensure that such atrocities are never repeated," said Congresswoman Arlene Brosas, Gabriela's representative in the current 19th Congress.
Brosas also emphasized the importance of recognizing and supporting the surviving comfort women in their pursuit of justice and redress.
