The Department of Social Welfare and Development said Friday that it will extend P1.36-million livelihood assistance to former communist rebels in Surigao del Sur.
The DSWD, a member of National Task Force on Ending Local Armed Conflict , vowed to continuously assist former rebels “to start their lives anew and return to the fold of society.” Psychosocial interventions have also been provided to the rebels by the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office .
These interventions include temporary shelter, appropriate assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations , and the provision of protective services, such as house rental assistance, psychosocial counseling, food packages, and hygiene and sleeping kits, it said.
