Camarines Sur 2nd district Rep. Luis “LRay” Villafuerte has urged the Department of Social Welfare and Development and 17 other government agencies to establish a package of social protection services for the 15 million solo parents residing in the Philippines. Thus, after Republic Act 11861 or the Expanded Solo Parents’ Welfare Act lapsed into law last June 28 granting solo parents expanded social benefits.

Aside from the DSWD, Villafuerte urged the 17 other government agencies to hasten their directive to pen a comprehensive package of social protection services in collaboration with local government units for solo parents and their children.

Villafuerte, one of the principal authors of the Expanded Solo Parents’ Welfare Act, also asked that LGUs be diligent in submitting lists of solo parent residents to the DSWD on a quarterly basis. He then named the DSWD and the DILG, urging the two to finally establish a database of all solo parents in the Philippines, to open Solo Parents Offices and Divisions in all cities and municipalities, and to issue beneficiaries their Solo Parent Identification cards .
