A Filipino-American senior citizen in Highland Park, California is dead after being hit in the head by youths who had stolen beer from the store where he worked.

According to Vonne Aquino's report on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday, 69-year-old Steven Reyes ran after the thieves, who struck him in the head with an electric scooter.

The suspects left him on the street and fled the scene. Reyes was found and rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The case is now with the Los Angeles Police Department, which holds security camera footage that will be used to identify the four suspects. Witnesses to the incident are also said to be cooperating.

According to Reyes’ daughter Nelle, the family is pushing for justice to be served and the perpetrators to be identified.“I just hope that they realize what they did and I really hope that this event would just change their life and I just wish them nothing but remorse and forgiveness,” she added.even as hate crimes against Asians have reportedly decreased.
