FIBA: Gilas Pilipinas finishes in last place in World Cup

BEIJING - It's official: Gilas Pilipinas will be the last-placed team in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, after all classification round games were finished on Monday night.

The Philippines went winless in the competition, with a 95-75 loss to Iran on Sunday night dropping them to 0-5. The 20-point margin of defeat also put their point differential at minus-147. Gilas Pilipinas could have avoided a last-place finish if Jordan had lost to Senegal by at least 15 points in their Group P game in Shanghai.That meant that Gilas ended up 32nd among 32 teams, as they had the worst point differential among the other winless teams.In the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain, the Philippines had placed 21st among 24 teams, after squeezing out one win in their five group round assignments.
