FIBA is planning another esports tournament after the success of its inaugural esports Open last month.

The federation reported that the FIBA esports Open 2020 generated over five million social media views just on the FIBA social media channels and those of the national federations. Spain alone generated 2.1 million impressions, 1.7 million views, and 9.8 million viewed hours while reaching 1.4 million unique views on their Twitter account.

With the inaugural event proving to be a big hit, FIBA says that over 35 national federations are now expressing interest in the next esports tournament. Plans for this are underway. "FIBA's Central Board identified this esports initiative as relevant and consistent with the strategic aim to enlarge the FIBA family and this event has been great for the promotion of basketball," he added.

"We want to cooperate as much as we can because we saw the potential of our team, and the potential of these games to give glory to the country," SBP Director of Operations Butch Antonio said. "Malaki ang e-gaming community natin, and malakas ang chance na mapag-medalya."
