Ferdinand Marcos State University? Imee wants state-run Ilocos school renamed

MANILA - Sen. Imee Marcos is seeking to rename an Ilocos Norte state-run university after her late father, Ferdinand Marcos.

In the lawmaker's Senate Bill No. 1044, Mariano Marcos State University in Batac City will be renamed Ferdinand E. Marcos State University once the legislation is enacted into law. The senator said she wants to rename the school so it is not confused with Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University in La Union.

"Hence, this Ilocos Norte SUC should instead be named after former Pres. Ferdinand E. Marcos, rather than his father, the assemblyman, Mariano Marcos," the bill read. The bill, dated September 11, 2019, is now pending before the Committee on Higher, Technical and Vocational Education in the Senate.DMMSU in La Union was founded on June 18, 1960.
