CEBU CITY — A female supervisor in Cebu is facing charges of human trafficking following the National Bureau of Investigation's rescue of 20 women in a bar in Barangay Banilad in Mandaue City.The NBI apprehended Riza Novela on June 21 at JTV Bar, where 20 women allegedly fell victim to trafficking.Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, NBI agents investigated claims that the bar's employees were coerced into providing 'extra services' to male patrons for a fee.
'Most of these assistants, described as single mothers or financially struggling women, were targeted due to their vulnerabilities.NBI agents arranged for two assistants to accompany them to a nearby motel under the guise of a social outing. They were subsequently rescued and brought to safety.Following this initial rescue, NBI agents conducted a raid at JTV Bar and rescued at least 18 employees.
