Deputy Speaker and Surigao del Sur Representative Prospero Pichay insists that an inquiry be made into the

“fake news” aspect of the just-concluded Southeast Asian Games despite the overall success of the event.“I agree that we have to probe the alleged sabotaging of the SEA Games especially on the aspect of fake news,” Pichay said in an interview Monday.

The 30th edition of the SEA Games was held in the Philippines from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11 this year. With 56 different sports, this year’s SEA Games was the biggest in the history of the biennial competitions. Logistical woes plagued the first few days of the Games, with visiting athletes not being fetched on time, untimely hotel bookings, and other mishaps dominating local headlines and social media in late November.

Cayetano told reporters earlier this month that, based on their gathered evidence, at least four groups attempted to sabotage the Philippines’ hosting of the Games.
