As the countdown to Christmas Day begins, the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service launched a new project for Persons Deprived of Liberty .“Give joy on Christmas. Christmas is a time where love is more felt and experienced. We call to mind those who have none and those who have no one, especially those behind bars,” said the PJPS.
The PJPS led by executive director Rev. Fr. Firmo Bargayo, SJ, seeks to make the holiday season more meaningful to the inmates. The organization’s Christmas project plans to bring Noche Buena and Media Noche food items such as spaghetti and fruit salad packs to the more than 33,000 inmates at the New Bilibid Prison and the Correctional Institute for Women.
The group, earlier, provided hygiene kits and skin ointment to the PDLs during the observance of the 35th Prison Awareness Week. The Philippine Jesuit Prison Service is the socio-pastoral apostolate of the Society of Jesus that provides services and programs such as holistic rehabilitation to Persons Deprived of Liberty.
