An expert infectious diseases urged the public on Friday to continue wearing face shields, even in areas where the plastic coverings are no longer required, to dodge more infectious COVID-19 variants.

The Delta COVID-19 variant that originated in India, 13 cases of which were tallied in the Philippines, is 60 percent more transmissible than the Alpha variant first detected in the United Kingdom, said Dr. Edsel Salvaña, a member of the group that advises the health department.

The Alpha variant is already 60 percent more infectious than the original COVID-19 variant, he noted. Face shields could serve as an "extra layer of protection" against these variants, he said in a televised public briefing. "Para sa akin kahit pa sabihin nila na hindi na required ang face shield, lalo na with the threat of this variant, gagamit pa rin po talaga ako ng face shield," said Salvaña. With some 1.3 million coronavirus infections and around 23,000 deaths, the Philippines has the second highest COVID-19 tally in Southeast Asia, next to Indonesia. the Beta variant first monitored in South Africa, as well as a homegrown P.3 variant.

Yeah, right. Why not ask every Filipino to wear complete ppe anywhere they go outside their homes? Just to be sure they will be safe from contamination. Experts!?*😡

Tengene, eh ano pinagkaiba ng mandatory sa hinde? Umeepal lng mga 'expert' na yan, they are recommending it because they can, not because ot is necessary and effective. Tengene nyo, nakaka high blood kayo.

double mask na lang kung kaya...

We are the second worst in Souteast Asia, it’s obviously not working. What do you call someone who keeps doing something over and over again and expects a different result?

Right “experts” we all know about them right. So they are right and the rest of the world is wrong

If he can point out a scientific basis for his advice, people should follow. Science is based on universality and mutuality. There must be universal acceptance with countries having some regulation requiring it. The fact that there is a few to none means the science is sketchy.

Pinas lng ata nagfe faceshield sa labas. 🤦‍♀️

Sinong primary importer ng face shield? 😳

Dagdag basura ang faceshield. Wag nyo gawing negosyo ang basura.

NO!! Walang ebidensiyang nakakatulong ito. Mas nahihirapan lang kaming naka eyeglasses....

rather than urging them to wear a faceshield when going out, it is better to tell the people to wear it properly, okay. Fun fact its not a hairshield but a faceshield

There's an Expert and there's a Czar for almost anything.

Yoko nga 🙄

Diyos ko bakit face shield ang pinagtatalunan nyo ang dami-daming importanteng bagay na kailangan para sa mga nahihirapang mamamayan🤬

Yes, it’s a good device to keep your hair up 😂🥴 as seen in the picture… also, I have another tip for a layer of protection… chop your head off and leave it at home while you go out and do the groceries… 🛒😀
