The stifling summer heat of Manila was becoming unbearable so a visit to Tagaytay City comes as a welcome relief. Where to stay? At the serene and tranquil Anya Resort of course! It may not have the sought after view of Taal Volcano but, for those who seek rest, relaxation and rejuvenation, it is far removed from the hustle and bustle of Tagaytay Ridge.

Prepared for us was a captivating and decadent 9-course meal, as presented by Sous Chef Robee Joy Javier, consisting of three appetizers, four main courses and two desserts. Each dish, using a variety of local and imported ingredients, was uniquely different from the previous course. This glimpse provided a perspective of local flavors as interpreted through the palate of a Spaniard and an Englishman who have resided long enough in the country to know the Filipino’s penchant for good food.

Equally enticing was the dessert of 5-Layer Jack Daniels Chocolate Fudge Cake and the Chef Chris Mango TresLeches . What can I say about these two decadent desserts? They’re both to die for. Dining was a third of the fun. Staying overnight was another third. This sprawling development, has 78 very clean, beautiful, well maintained, tastefully decorated and spacious rooms, all non-smoking and showcasing the world-renowned Filipino aesthetic integrating comfort, functionality and sophistication and combining modern design and traditional Filipino materials.

Since my last visit, European Wellness Retreat, the spa’s European partner, has added a sauna and a hyperbaric chamber . They also offer Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy , a natural “manual medicine” and a hands-on care that involves moving and manipulating a person’s muscles and joints to help diagnose, treat and prevent certain conditions.
