While Obiena’s enjoying family time and fulfilling commercial obligations here since landing from Hanzhou where he took the gold last week, his schedule won’t allow an extension. Obiena is turning 28 on Nov. 17 and he’ll celebrate away from home.
Obiena will host a fund-raising auction at Chili’s in Greenhills today at 1 p.m. He’s putting priceless memorabilia on the table, including his World Championship jersey worn in clearing 6.00 for the silver in Budapest this year. Obiena is hoping to put up a sizable fund to purchase pole vault pits for donation to regions across the country. Each pit, which includes the bar and landing cushion, costs about P500,000. A fiberglass pole costs about P50,000.
