COTABATO CITY - Bangsamoro Grand Mufti and Darul-Ifta Executive Director Abu Huraira Udasan on Friday announced that the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan,

would be celebrated on Sunday in the Philippines.The moon was not sighted Friday night so the 30 days of fasting must be completed, he said.

During the Eid al-Fitr, also called as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” Islam believers gather in open spaces early in the morning for the congregational prayer and thanksgiving. However, this year’s celebration of Eid al-Fitr is expected to be different as mosques remain closed for congregational prayers due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.Eid al-Fitr is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims around the world. - Arianne Apatan, ABS-CBN News
