In Bohol, the national and local governments must clarify policies on development in the Chocolate Hills, balancing the need to preserve the protected area while allowing sustainable tourism.

On top of pollution and anything-goes development is the existential threat posed by climate change. The country, which has one of the world’s most extensive coastlines, is among the most vulnerable to rising ocean temperatures. Global warming is threatening Philippine agriculture and fisheries production, aggravating food insecurity especially among poor households. Sustainable forestry has yet to be institutionalized.

China has been stepping up its pressure tactics in the West Philippine Sea, deploying a naval warship, alongside the China Coast Guard and maritime militia, in blocking an unarmed Philippine boat carrying supplies...
