The President said he intends to follow Arroyo’s brilliant example as he lauded her impressive 27-year career in public service, during the appreciation dinner held at the Manila Hotel Tuesday night.
Duterte has paid tribute to Arroyo as “a true living icon in Philippine politics and an embodiment of strong political will.” He said no other Philippine President comes close to Arroyo’s example of carrying out decisive actions even if such actions would prove to be unpopular. He recalled that he asked Arroyo to choose the next Speaker but she refused to meddle in the issue. He even joked about sending her back to jail if she did not help break the impasse in the speakership row.
He then joked that he will kill a person not because he was ordered by Arroyo but because he feels she wants the person killed.
