Duterte tells Goma: No reason not to accept returning residents

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte said Thursday night he doesn’t object with Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez’s policy over returning residents, but insisted they should be allowed to return home.

He added, “But you know there are also constitutional issues that are involved. Those are sacred ones. For those who are not really pronounced to be infected, positive, there’s no reason why you should not accept them, especially those returning to their homes from doing work abroad. Kawawa naman kasi.”

“He’s a very good administrator, being a military man. He knows how to craft a government that is really fit for your jurisdiction,” he said. “We have no problem accepting all these balikbayan people. Of course, we want them back in our city. But hindi naman 'to leisure, hindi naman 'to pasyal eh. You know, we are in a pandemic, so we really have to be very, very careful,” Gomez said on ANC's Headstart.

The increasing number of cases of CoVID positive returnees to the provinces says otherwise. Makes you wonder, is the national government pushing for this Balik Probinsya program so they can shift the medical burden to LGUs?

Duterte administration is clearly incapable of combatting this pandemic without the use of vaccines, so they are thrusting their problems to the hands of the private sector and LGUs instead!
