President Rodrigo Duterte has given the go signal to investigate Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro for allegedly mistreating her Filipina household helper, Senator Bong Go said.
Brazilian news outlet Globo News earlier released a CCTV video footage showing Mauro repeatedly hitting the head and pinching the ear of the 51-year-old helper, who can be seen cowering in fear inside Mauro's diplomatic residence. It added that the investigation will be carried out consistent with the relevant provisions of the law, particularly the Foreign Service Act of 1991.
Furthermore, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said on Thursday that criminal charges can be filed against Mauro aside from administrative charges if the results of the investigation will prove her guilty.
