Admitting his “hinanakit” or resentment at some media networks, President Duterte has vowed that he will not tolerate any abuse of the broadcast privilege given to media entities.

In a speech before a group of broadcast executives in Malacañang Wednesday, the President said the government is committed to protect the rights and safety of the local media, but reminded them that their broadcast function is a privilege granted by the government.

Several bills seeking to renew the network’s congressional franchise, which expires March 30, have been languishing in the House of Representatives following the President’s pronouncement to block such a move. He also recognized the important role of broadcast media in shaping a nation’s progress through responsible dissemination of news and information to the people.

At the start of his speech, the President admitted that he has “hinanakit” or resentment towards some networks, but declined to elaborate on the matter.
