Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat met local executives led by Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, and Silay City Mayor Mark Golez, together with the leaders of tourism associations and other organizations, to share the DoT’s commitment to reboot tourism in the new normal last Tuesday.“As the pandemic affected various regions in different ways, it was evident that there was no ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution to restart tourism.
Ongoing efforts are also being made to assist tourism establishments and affected tourism workers in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, including the DoT’s partnership programs with the Department of Labor and Employment in providing financial assistance to displaced tourism workers and the Small Business Corp. of the Department of Trade and Industry in providing loans.
“A total of 7,195 beneficiaries from 226 tourism enterprises and associations in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City have been endorsed to the DoT-DoLE program, with approval and payouts reaching P8.77 million as of Jan. 6, 2021,” she added. “As of Dec. 21, 2020, P820,000 was extended to three tourism enterprises from Bacolod and Negros Occidental,” she said.
