The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) vowed on Easter Sunday, April 4 to continue providing help to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), particularly those who have lost their jobs because of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Our government will not renege on its commitment to provide the needed assistance to our OFWs. We will continue to assist them for as long as it takes,” DOLE Sec. Silvestre Bello III said in a statement.

Bello revealed that some P5.043 billion worth of AKAP has been extended to a total of 497,122 OFWs since the pandemic began last year. A total of $1.93 million in cash assistance to 9,667 OFWs COVID patients have been given, while another $2.6 million worth of medical and food aid have been extended to 124,945 OFWs.
