Three of the additional cases are from Bontoc, Mountain Province, while two cases are from Cebu.

The Department of Health on Friday night, February 5, reported 8 additional cases of the more infectious United Kingdom COVID-19 variant, bringing total cases in the country to 25.

The other case involves an 84-year-old male who had no known history of travel nor contact with any UK variant case. He was recorded to have died last January 24. He was part of a separate cluster of cases in the city.Of the two returnees, one is a 29-year-old female who arrived from United Arab Emirates on January 7 aboard Philippine Airlines flight PR 659. She has already recovered. The DOH didn't provide her address.

Genomic sequencing is the process of analyzing the virus sample taken from a diagnosed patient and comparing it with other cases to see whether those who tested positive for COVID-19 have the new variant.
