Despite intensified immunization, pertussis or whooping cough cases nationwide continue to increase, according to the Department of Health.

DOH: Pertussis cases 20 times higher since January Parents avail of the pentavalent vaccine for their children and attend a small seminar on pertussis at a health center in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City on March 22, 2024MANILA, Philippines — Despite intensified immunization, pertussis or whooping cough cases nationwide continue to increase, according to the Department of Health .

The five regions reporting the most number of cases are Mimaropa , National Capital Region , Central Luzon , Central Visayas and Western Visayas .About 66 percent of these children were either unvaccinated or did not know their vaccination history. The DOH advised the public to immediately seek medical treatment when infected and not to self-medicate.

Meanwhile, the local government of Malabon urged residents to observe health protocols to prevent the spread of pertussis.
