MANILA, Philippines — The number of new coronavirus disease cases in the country shot up to 291,789 on Tuesday after the Department of Health recorded 1,635 new infections.ADVERTISEMENT

Metro Manila still has the most number of new cases with 583, trailed by Cavite with 102, Iloilo with 97, Rizal with 67, and Cebu with 57. Also, DOH reported the recovery of 450 more patients driving total recoveries to 230,643, as well as the demise of another 50 that increased the death toll to 5,049.
