Tagbilaran, Bohol Bishop Alberto Uy encourages parishes, basic ecclesial communities, religious organizations, schools, communities, and ministries to participate in the planting of thousands of tree seedlings “to help preserve the environment.”

The Season of Creation, which highlights the importance of caring for the environment, will be observed from September 1 to October 4, feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment.

“Our Mother Earth is bleeding and hurting. Everyone has to do something and contribute to the solution. The threat of global warming is real and we need to do something for the future generation,” Uy said over Church-run Radio Veritas. Last year, the Diocese of Tagbilaran, in partnership with several groups and communities, successfully planted more than 50,000 different varieties of tree seedlings in selected areas in Bohol.

“I am now calling on Boholanos to prepare their seedlings and to participate in this move to preserve the environment where we live. I am praying and hoping for another successful tree planting activity as we open the Season of Creation,” the prelate said. Pope Francis, in his encyclical for the environment, “Laudato Si” has called on the faithful to actively do their share in helping protect and preserve the environment.
