The DFA launched a microsite with resources related to the 2016 Arbitral Award on the South China Sea, which ruled the Philippines' territorial integrity over the West Philippine Sea, to commemorate the award's 7th anniversary. | ManilaBulletin READ:

DFA Secretary Enrique Manalo said the microsite would provide "a central resource of information and positions on the award" as well as its "contributions to the rule of law and peaceful settlement of disputes" through the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and international law.

In launching the microsite, the Philippines regarded the award as "a significant contribution to international law and the interpretation and application" of the UNCLOS, according to Manalo. "The Award conclusively settled the issue of historic rights and maritime entitlements in the South China Sea," Manalo said.

The launching is also the country's "attempt to clear some of the fog," as the issue "is complex and may be confusing," DFA Office of Maritime and Ocean Affairs Assistant Secretary Maria Angela Ponce said. "It is a work-in-progress site, but I feel it is an important start to gaining a better understanding of the complex issues faced by the Philippines in the South China Sea and the West Philippine Sea," Ponce added.
