The NQESH, also known as the “Principal’s Test,” serves as a mechanism for selecting school heads in the public education system. It is open to all interested applicants for Principal I positions.

The Department of Education announced that the conduct of the National Qualifying Examination for School Heads will resume this year.

In a memorandum dated Feb. 15, DepEd Undersecretary for Planning, Human Resource and Organizational Development Jesus Mateo informed Regional Directors, Schools Division Superintendents and all other concerned that the NQESH for Fiscal Year 2021 will resume. Mateo said that with reference to DO No. 24, s. 2020, the National Adoption and Implementation of the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads , the BHROD has “commenced its preparatory work to align the competency assessment and examination” with the standards set by the PPSSH.

“As DepEd moves towards competency-based HR, the NQESH will remain its primary mechanism to safeguard and gauge the competency and quality of the aspiring school leaders in DepEd schools,” Mateo said. Mateo noted that the schedule and other details related to the NQESH shall be announced in the second quarter of 2021.
