While it has already surpassed the enrollment figures last year, the Department of Education expressed optimism that more learners will enroll before the enrollment period for School Year officially ends by the end of this month.“We expect na tataas pa itong numerong ito by September 30. By that time tapos na iyong deadline sa enrollment at tataas pa ang mga numero ,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones in a televised briefing on Sept. 20.

Based on DepEd Order No. 30, s. 2021, DepEd has instructed public schools and private schools, state universities, and colleges following the DepEd schedule, to admit learners until the end of the month. As of Sept. 18, DepEd recorded 28,219,263 enrollees or 107.6 percent from last year for this school year.DepEd also noted that Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley Region, MIMAROPA , Central and Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, BARMM , and CAR already exceeded their enrollment rate last year — indicating that “some learners who opted not to enroll in the previous year are returning this time.

Meanwhile, Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said DepEd is “happy with the turnout of enrollment this year” — noting that we have surpassed last year’s enrollment levels, overall and in nearly all regions as of Sept. 18. As of Sept. 20, Malaluan said that DepEd has discontinued releasing of the enrollment quick-count as “we shift to the Beginning of School Year updating of student profiles.
