MANILA - Discussions about the reimposition of the death penalty for heinous crimes should be revived, a lawmaker said Friday, a day after members of a political clan and several others were convicted

for the brutal killing of 58 people in Maguindanao in 2009.

Marcos is the daughter of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos, whose strongman rule was marked by extrajudicial killings, human rights violations and the plunder of state coffers. Death penalty "should be limited to 'very exceptional exceptions' like large-scale drug trafficking and plunder" and should not cover minors, the senator said.

for me, death penalty is okay. But if it’s going to be performed in the Philippines, it’ll never be okay. Sobrang basura ng Justice system natin na simpleng mga bagay hindi natin naaayos. Death penalty pa kaya? We’re not ready for it.
