BREAKING: Senator Leila De Lima arrives in hometown to visit ailing mother

De Lima left her detention cell in Camp Crame at around 2:30 a.m. to fly to Legazpi Airport. From the airport, she traveled by land to their ancestral home in Barangay San Agustin in Iriga.

Senator Leila de Lima, who was allowed a 48-hour furlough from her two-year detention, arrived at her family's ancestral home in Iriga, Camarines Sur on Thursday morning to visit her critically-ill mother.

Two Muntinlupa courts granted de Lima's urgent motion for furlough to visit her 86-year-old mother, Norma, who is suffering from dementia. They gave de Lima a maximum period of 48 hours, including travel time, from August 14 to 15. She must return to her detention cell on or before August 16.
