The Department of Agriculture will issue a price cap for imported onions to ensure that local farmers will not be affected.Agriculture Deputy Spokesman Rex Estoperez said that the department is considering P100 to P150 per kilo for the imported bulbs. The price cap will take effect on Wednesday.'We should be very careful. We have to put a cap on the imported ones. The final figure on the cost of production is very important,' Estoperez said.

The official is scheduled to visit onion farms in Nueva Ecija and Occidental Mindoro.Albay Rep. Joey Salceda earlier predicted that the retail price of onions will drop to P50 per kilo but Estoperez said this is not possible.'We are looking at P100 to P150, if the cost of production is lower than P100 , the better but not what was published at P50. We will still check but based on our earlier consultation with the farmers, the cost of production is more than P50.
