DA official who signed 'illegal' sugar importation resolution resigns

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Agriculture official who signed the alleged illegal sugar importation resolution has resigned from his post, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angles said on Friday, August 12.

“I sincerely offer my apologies, Your Excellency, for my having approved Sugar Order No. 4 on your behalf, and through the authority you have vested upon me… I take accountability and responsibility for its consequences,” the agriculture official said in his letter quoted by Angeles.Sugar Order No. 4 of the Sugar Regulatory Administration approved the importation of 300,000 metric tons of sugar after being “signed” by the President, who also chairs the SRA.

Although Angeles used the word “resign” to refer to Agriculture official’s action, Sebastian did not use the word in his letter.

Why are you updating a 2 day old report? There's nothing added to the story. Did anyone dig deeper? Interview the the resigned official?

As said before, this practice is not new. It flourished thru the years and enriched signatories regardless of administration.

Imposible walang kinalaman ang top boss dyan eh may consultation muna bago bibili ang isang department or agency, baka nga hindi nagustuhan ang share na ibibigay, kaya nalantad 😚

Resign only isn't there a law that should punish qnd send this individual or individuals to jail. This is not the legal and proper course or action. This is usurpation of authority and a corresponding criminal charge and sentence should be meted.

Good example of accountability in public office. Problema walang consultation or referral for advice sa Secretary of Agriculture (President)bago inaprrove ni Usec ang importation. Wala sanang resignation na nangyari.

Other signatories of that document must also resigned for they are bound to ensure the correctness of the document before the Secretary signs.

Nagresign? Pinag-resign?

Pahiya na naman kayo pinapakalat nyo na may pirma ang pangulo. Di na kayo nadala.

There must be a deeper story to this, the official who resigned was being played for a pasty and he obviously didn't realize it.
