The incidents of cybercrime in Metro Manila in the first half of 2023 increased by 152% compared to the same period last year, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The incidents of cybercrime in Metro Manila in the first half of 2023 increased by 152% compared to the same period last year, according to the Philippine National Police .

Data by the National Capital Region Police Office showed that there were 6,250 reported cybercrimes in the region from January to June 2023, according to a report on 24 Oras on Saturday.For this year, 4,446 were incidents of online scam; 1,063 were incidents of illegal access; while 625 were incidents of ATM or credit card fraud.

In 2022, there were only 1,551 incidents of online scam; 570 incidents of illegal access; and 241 incidents of ATM or credit card fraud.
