With scams and other forms of fraud growing more popular along with online transactions, experts remind customers also need to be responsible in ensuring their information is secure.

"We have to understand that you know, security is a joint responsibility between the cardholder and the banks," Credit Card Association of the Philippines executive director Alex Ilagan told CNN Philippines' The Exchange."The cardholder will also have to understand na meron pa rin silang responsibility, noh, to preserve…the information, protect the information that they have.

Should these happen, cardholders must contact their respective banks immediately so that their accounts can be blocked as soon as possible, effectively barring any additional anomalous activity. Cardholders, then, must be aware of every notification they receive. Galla likewise encouraged strengthening one's defense against cybercrimes, and this can be done by employing a layered approach like multi-factor authentication. The more layers there are, the smaller the chances fraudsters can infiltrate, he noted.
