MANILA - The Civil Service Commission announced Tuesday it will be suspending the nationwide civil service exams on Sunday after the declaration of a state of public health emergency due to the coronavirus disease 2019 .
In a Facebook post, the CSC said the exams were supposed to be held in 66 testing locations nationwide with a total of 295,711 individuals registered to take the pen and paper test. “Thus, it is necessary to suspend the exams as a preemptive health measure to mitigate the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases and to support the national and local government units in undertaking appropriate response and measures in a timely manner to curtail and eliminate the COVID-19 threat,” the CSC said.
President Rodrigo Duterte has announced the suspension of classes in all levels in Metro Manila from March 10 to 14, to prevent students from possible infection of the dreaded disease, that has already infected more than 110,000 people worldwide. The President earlier placed the country under a state of public health emergency after the Southeast Asian country's cases of the virus rapidly rose over the weekend, confirming at least 5 new infections.
The country has so far recorded 33 confirmed COVID-19 cases, as of posting, of which two have already been discharged while one has passed away.
