Croatia fights back from a goal down and outlasts Brazil in the penalty shootout to complete a massive upset and reach the FIFAWorldCup semifinals for the second time in a row.

AL RAYYAN, Qatar – Croatia stunned favorites Brazil, 4-2, on penalties on Friday , December 9, to reach the FIFA World Cup semifinals for the second time in a row after battling back from a goal down in extra time, in one of the biggest knockout-phase upsets in the tournament’s history.

But Brazil got punished for letting its guard down, with substitute Bruno Petkovic drilling in an 117th-minute equalizer with their one and only shot on target, breaking Brazilian hearts in the Education City Stadium. “This is a victory for all of us, everyone gave their best. Thanks also to those on the bench, who also live for this national team.”

It was Croatia which looked sharper, more skilled in its passing game and with a precise game plan, and by the end of the first half, it had the upper hand in terms of possession.
