The petition said the law “contains provisions that are repugnant and perilous to the constitutional rights of every citizen.”

“This is a positive development, as it provides all parties concerned the appropriate forum for the resolution of all the legal and constitutional issues involved, with finality,” he told reporters in a Viber message.The ATC is tasked with implementing the law and formulating plans to prevent terrorism and combat terrorist groups. In a statement, Calleja said the law “has paved the way for a legal framework that would allow the government to go against its own people.

The Calleja Law Firm said on its Facebook page that the physical copies of the petition would be submitted to the court on Monday. NUPL president Edre Olalia said many people had expressed their “intense intention” to join their petition for a TRO or a preliminary injunction against the new law. About 100 activists wearing protective face covers staged simultaneous indignation rallies against the law at Bacoor and Dasmariñas cities in Cavite and in Cabuyao and Sta. Rosa cities in Laguna at 4 p.m.
