ARTISTS can only create their work when they have the leisure time and the breathing space, away from the demands of a 9 to 5 job. There were several arts organizations around the country that were offering such space for artists before I left the Philippines last year.They were blindsided by the Covid-19 pandemic, like everything else, and I hope they have resumed normal operations again.Guni-Guri Collective is an arts center in the small city of Lucena in Quezon Province.
The bangan also serves as a venue for an art camp. The camp has grown to fuse games, visual arts and performance.In the future, the couple aims to offer an on-site integrated arts program with both an awareness of and appreciation for Gapan and other local communities. They have also planted 100 trees in the community and plan to expand this to other towns. May these trees flourish, along with the couple's wish to revive an important cultural heritage in Gapan.
