Irregularities in the issuance of benefit cards for persons with disabilities and senior citizens will be investigated by the House of Representatives.

Laguna Rep. Sol Aragones is confident that as far as the issuance of senior citizen identification is concerned, irregularities may be addressed by the Philippine Identification System law.

Yap, chairman of the House Committee on Games and Amusement, disclosed that reports indicated that certain individuals were able to secure PWD IDs by faking their disability. Cardholders are also granted value-added tax exemption and a five percent discount on basic necessities and prime commodities said Yap.

Abuse really exists. There must be clear guidelines what conditions a person could be considered a PWD. Doctors who abuse this for a FEE or FAVOR must be severely sanctioned.
