The number of Chinese nationals involved in criminal offenses in Southern Metro Manila continues to rise as police logged two more kidnapping suspects on the first day of the year.

In a Jan. 1 report from the National Capital Region Police Office , authorities arrested on New Year’s Eve, at a subdivision in Las Piñas City, Chinese national Li Mu Qin for allegedly kidnapping for ransom two Vietnamese nationals who were identified as Pha Ti Khim Yin and Nguyen Thi Than Mai.Police, who rescued the victims, said the suspects were allegedly demanding P1 million cash from the victims’ cousin, Nguyen Anh Hong Trang, in exchange for their release.

Police said that upon arriving at the suspects’ house, the victims’ hands and legs were tied with packing tape and they were asked to contact their family to produce the ransom money. This latest incident of kidnapping has been added to the number of Chinese nationals involved in criminal offenses, which according to the SPD is increasing.
