China has promised not to interfere with the Philippine government's campaign against illegal offshore gaming operations and gambling-related offenses, President Duterte said recently.

China has promised not to interfere with the Philippine government’s campaign against illegal offshore gaming operations and gambling-related offenses, President Duterte said recently. The President said China understands the country’s duty to enforce the law, including the arrest and deportation of Chinese nationals if needed.

“The ambassador says, ‘If you must, do it because the law is the law. If there’s a need to deport, to arrest…’ They’re keeping their hands away from these things. ‘You have the prerogative to do what you want to enforce the law’,” Duterte said in a recent interview over ABS-CBN.The President had earlier refused to put a stop to the booming Philippine offshore gaming operators , saying the country needed job-generating investments.

Beijing, which prohibits gambling among its nationals, had earlier blamed offshore gaming operations for rampant money laundering and social ills in China. It also raised concerns that these gambling hubs have illegally recruited its nationals.
