China's President Xi Jinping said on Saturday that "peaceful reunification" with Taiwan "will be and can be realized", as tensions between Beijing and Taipei soared days after record numbers of Chinese warplanes crossed into the democratic island's air defense zone.
A large portrait of Sun Yat-sen, the western-educated doctor who founded the Republic of China, which remains the formal name of Taiwan, towered over the stage as Xi spoke. "Nobody should underestimate the Chinese people's firm resolution, staunch will and formidable capacity to defend their national sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said.Beijing has ramped up pressure on Taipei since the 2016 election of President Tsai Ing-wen, who views the island as "already independent".
Taiwan's defense minister said Wednesday that military tensions with China were at their highest in four decades, after around 150 Chinese warplanes -- a record number -- made incursions into Taiwan's air defense zone in recent days.

This is just geographical tactics from China in case they go on war with US. They’ll use taiwan, hongkong, and philippines as barricades to US. This is also the reason why they are claiming WPS. To build their base.
There is nothing wrong with reuniting as long as it shall respect and recognize human rights, democratic practices, culture and religious freedom which is to practice one's belief without interference from government. But if it is for domination, it should be out of the question.
