DAVAO CITY – The office of the Consulate General of China here has ordered the suspension of Jinjiang-Davao-Jinjiang direct flights amid the novel coronavirus scare.

In a statement released through their Facebook page on Friday night, the Consulate General said their office, along with the city government and Xiamen Airlines, have decided through consultations to suspend their direct flights on Feb. 2 and 5. This was “considering the current pneumonia epidemic caused by the new coronavirus, and in order to ensure public health and safety,” the statement said.

It also said subsequent flights will be suspended until the epidemic situation improves, and when the parties have come to a consensus to resume the flights. Last Jan. 29, Xiamen Air flight MF8679 from Jinjiang landed at the Davao International Airport carrying at least 73 Chinese nationals and six Filipinos. Bureau of Quarantine-Davao head Dr. Wilson Lim said the passengers were found negative for nCoV symptoms after being individually checked outside the aircraft.Lim added that the passengers are still under monitoring, even if they have tested negative for symptoms.
