Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Monsignor Joseph Tan, the spokesperson of the archdiocese, confirmed the news Friday, Feb. 20.

“The Archdiocese of Cebu wishes to inform the faithful that Archbishop Jose S. Palma tested positive for COVID last night,” he said. Tan said the prelate remains in a “stable condition” and is now under medical care at Perpetual Succour Hospital. “The people who have been in close contact with the Archbishop have also been informed about the matter,” he said.Other Catholic prelates have tested positive for COVID-19 but have since recovered. They are Archdiocese of Manila apostolic administrator Bishop Broderick Pabillo, retired Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iniguez and former Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.
