The local government is lobbying for a 300- to 400-percent increase in tax rates in a bid to fund Mayor Michael Rama’s proposed P50-billion budget for 2023 that would hopefully pave the way for his vision to turn Cebu City into the next Singapore.

Castillo stressed the need to look into the legality of revising business and real property tax rates since the last time the city did it was in 2006, or 16 years ago.

Castillo said there was an instance in the past where the Commission on Audit called the attention of the Cebu City government, through an audit observation memorandum, due to the city’s failure to revise its business and real property tax rates. He said the council would meet with barangay officials in the city to solicit their comments on the proposal.

He, however, admitted that the mayor’s office had yet to conduct barangay consultations although these were already being scheduled. A summary of the proposed appropriation showed that the P50 billion would be sourced from the general fund, like the national tax allotment ; tax revenues ; nontax revenues ; and shares from the economic zone .

SG prospered because LKY was a great leader, completing projects continuously for 30+ years: no graft, disciplined and certainty in applying laws

Tax na naman, Kaunti lang kasi ang nabubulsa ng mga kurakot. Kawawang Juan.

Ha ha gasgas na yan “into the next Singapore ” eme nyo! Uto-uto a lang maniniwala dyan. Tagal na nating mala-Singapore. 🤣🤣

Eto na naman tayo sa next Singapore. Mukhang malaki nagastos ni Mayor sa eleksyon. Hilig talaga ng gobyernnong ito magkumpara. Baka next Mexico sa corruption.

kelangan idaan sa tax? option 1. Private public partnership 2. Private investment At me dagdag na share sa national income dahil sa mandanas garcia ruling. That said 2025 is looming.

300-400% increase? So kung may tax kang 20k/month magiging 80k na? Tapos inflation? Wow naman si mayor

I don't believe in these kind of tax increases promising rose garden. If they want to be like Singapore, invite businessmen from Singapore to invest in Cebu.

Kaso walang tumira sa city niya dahil sa taas ng tax.

Mayor Rama, infrastructures don't make a Singapore. Go down to basics --- it's DISCIPLINE! Start from honest-to-goodness leadership. No corruption, equal delivery of justice, strict enforcement of the law, good educational system, instill patriotism in school children, fear God.
