Defining the News

The Commission on Elections has revealed that Silang Mayor Alston Kevin Anarna of Cavite was suspended for six months without pay over alleged anomalies in the purchase of flowers and celebratory materials following the town’s fiesta celebration.

Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. received a copy of the order dated April 12, which was made public on April 24. In issuing the directive, the Office of the Ombudsman said there was strong evidence showing their guilt, and their continued stay in office may prejudice the investigation of the case filed against them.

Bayan accused the officials of irregularities in the procurement of flowers and string lights used during the Silangueño Ball on Jan. 28, 2023, in honor of the town’s patron saint.
