His daughter Peach confirmed the news late Saturday night in a Facebook post where she paid tribute to her father.'Sa larangan ng komiks siya ang naghari, naging bahagi ng kultura, naging yaman ng lahi/ Subalit buhay ay sadyang may wakas.../ 'Pack up na Direk'. Oras na ng uwian./Salamat Direk Carlo J. sa mga dibuho at istorya./ Mga istoryang nabuo sa bawat tipa ng iyong makinilya...' part of Peach's tribute poem 'Sa Bawat Tipa ng Makinilya,' read.

Peach did not disclose the cause of her father's death but shared that the wake will start Monday, May 27, from 12 p.m. to 12 midnight, at the Golden Haven Memorial Chapels and Crematorium's Conservatorio II, in Villar Sipag, C5 Extension Road, Brgy. Manuyo Dos, Las Piñas.Carlo Caparas started his career as a comic cartoonist and writer.
