Cambodia's anti-drug police have arrested six foreigners for allegedly trafficking illicit drug, confiscating nearly 790 kg of ketamine, the country's Anti-Drug Department (ADP) said in a news release on Friday.

The suspects, all males aged between 26 and 46, were apprehended on Tuesday during raids in the coastal city of Sihanoukville and the capital Phnom Penh, following a four-month probe, the ADP said.

"A total of 789.78 kilograms of ketamine was seized from the suspects during the raids," the ADP said, adding that four cars, two motorcycles, seven telephones and eight bank accounts were also impounded. The Southeast Asian country has no death sentence for a drug trafficker. Under its law, someone found guilty of trafficking more than 80 grams of illicit drug could be jailed for life.

According to the ADP, Cambodia nabbed 10,167 drug-related suspects, including 215 foreigners, during the January-July period of 2023, seizing more than 979 kg of narcotics. Most of the seized drugs were heroin, ecstasy, ketamine, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine pills and cathinone.
