The Department of Health's budget request for COVID-19 booster shots next year was cut by more than half.

The DOH initially proposed about ₱104 billion for the purchase of booster shots, but the Department of Budget and Management only earmarked ₱45 billion under unprogrammed appropriations in the proposed budget for 2022, Health Secretary Francisco Duque said in a House hearing Wednesday.

"Ang problema bumabagsak po ang ekonomiya natin. At pagbagsak ng ekonomiya, babagsak rin ang revenues. In short, hanging in the balance kapag unprogrammed," Marikina City 2nd District Rep. Stella Quimbo said in the same hearing. Meanwhile, Iloilo 1st District Rep. Janette Garin urged the DOH to consider realigning its proposed budget - letting go of its other projects to make sure booster shots will be financed.
